Regardless of record these two teams never fail to disappoint when they meet. Both teams coming in to today’s matchup sitting at 4-4 could use this win not only for bragging rights but to continue to trend upward in hopes to become bowl eligible in 2019. Head coach Manny Diaz has named Jarren Williams the starter for today’s matchup against Florida State. Miami ranks number 36 in the nation in pass offense, averaging 263 yards per game. Miami’s offensive line ranks 126th in the country, giving up 4 sacks per game. As Canes fans we already know about the poor offensive line play. The Seminole pass rush is solid but not consistent so it should be an interesting matchup. Florida State’s passing offense ranks 29th in the nation, averaging 277 yards per game. Their offensive line is also giving up 3 sacks per game. The level of play in the secondary has been up and down in 2019 for Miami but the performance against Pitt last week was very good. DJ Ivey intercepted two passes and the defense held Pitt to only 146 passing yards. The Seminole offense runs through their running back Cam Akers. Akers has totaled 917 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the season. The run defense has been the strength of the defense for Miami in 2019. The Canes currently rank 17th in the nation against the run, giving up 106 yards per game.
Miami’s keys to victory
1: Stop the run and force Florida State to be one dimensional on offense.
2: Get pressure on the quarterback and get the Florida State offense in long down and distances. I’m expecting a big day from Greg Rousseau.
3: FORCE TURNOVERS AND GET THAT TURNOVER CHAIN OUT.
4: On offense the team must start fast and don’t stall out drives once they get inside the 10.
5: Get our playmakers involved early.
6: Jarren Williams must control the game and not turn the ball over.
Prediction: I think Miami wins a close one on the road today. 24-17. GO CANES BABY!!!!!!
